Umbrellas outside, smiles inside
On May 31st in San Marco dei Cavoti, rain enters the photographs from the preparations onwards: umbrellas in the lanes, drops on the cars, people gathering in doorways. Inside, laughter continues. We follow the hands adjusting Giuseppe’s bow tie, those fastening Stefania’s dress, and those reaching for one another before leaving. The rings rest on a record player; a little later, a smile appears beneath the veil. The joy of the day is already here.
Meeting inside the stone church
Giuseppe waits in the church as the little girls lead the way for Stefania. Soft light falls on the stone walls and the guests turn towards the entrance. We photograph their meeting and stay close to the small gestures of the ceremony: a hand raised to a face, the little girl with the rings, the rings passing from one hand to another. When the veil gathers them together, we step back and allow the space of the church into the frame too.
Every hand goes up at the door
Outside, the guests are waiting with umbrellas and rice ready to throw. At the doorway, everything starts moving at once: hands rise, confetti crosses the air, Giuseppe and Stefania duck and laugh. We stay inside the scene, among the arms and faces of those celebrating, then widen the frame to hold the church door and the people gathered around it. The rain has not stopped this exit.
The sun came later
We pause in the lanes for a few portraits, between the stone walls and the little girls stepping back into the frame. Then the landscape opens up and sunlight comes through the trees. Giuseppe and Stefania take each other’s hands, bring their foreheads together and start walking again. We alternate their faces with small figures along the avenue. The light has changed; their wish to be together and enjoy the day was there beneath the umbrellas too.
A Masseria Olivola, fino all’ultimo ballo
At Masseria Olivola, until the last dance
The reception at Masseria Olivola in Benevento is coordinated by Rosy Ciotola Eventi. Wooden tables, pale flowers and candles accompany the transition into evening. Live music brings the guests together; we follow the dancing, the embraces and the laughter passing from one group to another. Some guests leave their mark on the couple’s picture too. For the cake, we go outside again: lights above the garden close a day that began with umbrellas and was enjoyed to the full.
