Hands before leaving
On May 4th, before heading to Sant’Agata dei Goti, we follow Gianpaolo and Maria Libera through their preparations. People, reflections and small gestures meet inside the rooms: cuffs to fasten, a tie to adjust, a veil to lift. We pause on the hands, then return to the faces. Maria Libera smiles as those around her help with her dress; an embrace, with eyes closed, slows everything down for a moment.
Inside the church, Gianpaolo waits as the guests take their seats. Maria Libera’s arrival turns their attention towards the entrance. We alternate the nave and wooden ceiling with smaller gestures: hands held close, the exchange of rings, a smile towards one another. When the veil is spread above them, we widen the frame to include those holding it. The ceremony unfolds across their faces and the people gathered around them.
The doorway becomes a celebration
Outside the church, arms are already raised. Gianpaolo and Maria Libera cross the doorway through rice and petals, ducking their heads and finding each other amid the movement. We photograph the scene up close, then step aside to bring the façade, the couple and the guests into one frame. Kisses follow, along with hands helping to brush the last traces of the celebration from the dress.
A dance above the hills
For the portraits, we leave room for the path, the walls and the trees. Gianpaolo and Maria Libera walk hand in hand; from a distance they become two small figures in the greenery, while up close we find their smiles again. At La Fortezza in Torrecuso, we also photograph moments among the guests. As the light fades, a couple take a dance against the hills: their silhouettes and joined hands add another fragment to the story of the celebration.
Back inside, the dancing continues
The reception at La Fortezza continues between the tables and the dance floor. The room fills with people dancing, embracing and coming close to the couple. We also follow the scenes from the edges, allowing arms, flowers and other guests into the frame. The embraces of the preparations return during the celebration, this time in the centre of the room. Then everyone heads outside for the cake and a final toast beneath the evening sky.
