The terrace comes first

Giuliano and Barbara are Canadians of Italian heritage. They chose Villa Clermont in Vico Equense for their wedding, bringing the celebration across the ocean so their relatives in Italy could be beside them too. On August 31, 2025, we photograph them between the rooms and the terrace overlooking the sea: a bow tie to adjust, mirrors, hands fastening the dress. People are already part of the photographs during the preparations, before everyone comes together for the ceremony.

Prima guardarsi, poi arrivano tutti

First they see each other, then everyone arrives

Giuliano waits facing the sea; Barbara approaches from behind. We stay far enough away to give that first meeting some room. Later, in front of the flower arch, the space fills up: entrances, readings, rings. We watch the guests’ seats too, because the couple are not the only ones in tears. As they walk out, confetti changes the scene again and we move back into the crowd.

A small step changes the picture

At sunset, the sun falls right between their faces. A small step changes the photograph: first the sea and coastline, then two profiles close together, then a sky filling almost the entire frame. Further along, we find that light again inside a small opening in a wall. These are the photographs we keep together: the view, and the way Giuliano and Barbara inhabit it.

The room gathers around them

After the hugs, there is even time to play with a giant lemon. Inside, the rows become a circle: toasts, words into a microphone, dancing and people finding each other between the tables. A child stays on the floor, amid yellow patches of light. We keep photographing as jackets disappear and the dancing spreads. Outside, by the cake, darkness returns, with sparks all around them.
